HP Slate will be targeted to enterprise users

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 12:58 AM PDT

Nowadays it’s all about tablets and portable devices, and all the big manufacturers are working hard on new tablets. First tablet that has made quite the impact on the market was Apple’s iPad. Powered by great hardware and by iOS iPad has proven to be a great solution for many users out there. Speaking of iPad’s popularity, for only three months iPad has been sold in more than three million copies and some experts predict that by the end of 2010 there will be sold more than eleven million iPads. With such popularity and with so many sold devices it’s no wonder that we aren’t seeing decent competition that can shake iPad’s popularity. Over the years, there have been many tablets but none of them was even close to iPad.

Latest iPad challenger was the HP Slate, but after the latest news it seems that HP Slate will not jeopardize iPad’s success. HP Personal Systems Group VP Todd Bradley announced on a tech conference that their latest tablet, which supposed to be an iPad competitor, will be targeted to the enterprise. There will be two models of HP Slate. One will use Windows 7 while other will use webOS that was acquired when HP purchased Palm few months ago. Since HP is going to focus its new tablet to the enterprise there’s no need to worry that it will somehow jeopardize iPad’s success. On the other hand, this move will give Apple enough time to work on its future projects.

On the other hand, Microsoft isn’t pleased with HP’s decision. Instead of focusing on mass market and on presentation of Windows 7 to mass audience Microsoft will have to be satisfied with enterprise users. It seems that this way Apple will remain the leading manufacturer of tablets on the market and it looks like we’re going to have to wait until another major company releases Android powered tablet.
